Chapter 53 The Long-Awaited Wedding Proceeds As Scheduled
ere had been no imperial decree yet, the Emperor had already consulted me. I met the girl; she seemed gentle and well-mannered, knowledgeable, and everything suggested that she could tame my son’s wil...Chapter 53: As Scheduled Grand Wedding
This night, the Yunwang Mansion was brightly lit. There was a banquet in the main hall with many people attending, but the atmosphere was solemn.
In the Qianyue Pavilion, there was a small-scale dinner party where master and servants were not distinguished by roles. Dumplings were served on the table, and Yun Qianyu called all of the residents in the pavilion to join her for the meal. Ugly Mother (Ya Ma), Tingxue, Tingyu, and others initially shook their heads in fear but later sat at the table tentatively under Yun Qianyu's firm insistence and Rong Jing’s gentle instructions. They gradually relaxed as the dinner progressed, creating a pleasant atmosphere filled with laughter and joy.
During the meal, Ye Qingran naturally did not miss the opportunity to mock Rong Jing from head to toe in his usual way, always using words related to weakness.
The banquet lasted until the full moon rose high in the sky before everyone dispersed. Ye Qingran had drunk a lot and staggered out of Qianyue Pavilion; Rong Feng drank less than him and was worried about Ye Qingran going back alone, so he followed and saw him off to the Dexing Prince's Mansion.
Since Rong Jing was severely injured, he naturally couldn't drink any alcohol. Yun Qianyu had been drinking medicine as per Rong Feng’s prescription for half a month already, so she also could not have any alcohol. Thus, after everyone left and they were neither drunk nor sleepy, the two of them leaned against the lounge chairs in the courtyard to admire the moon.
The courtyard was quiet with a gentle breeze blowing by, carrying the fragrance of osmanthus flowers that permeated their clothes, refreshing their senses.
Yun Qianyu looked up at the half-moon and after a long while, she asked Rong Jing, "Have you heard the story about Chang'e flying to the moon"
Rong Jing shook his head. "No!"
"The Ten Ancient Legends You really haven't heard of them" Yun Qianyu asked doubtfully.
Rong Jing shook his head again. "No!"
"Then let me tell you the story." Yun Qianyu looked at him as she took her eyes off the sky.
"Alright," Rong Jing responded.
Yun Qianyu thought for a moment and said, "To talk about this story, we should first listen to a poem. The author is Li Shangyin: A deep candlelit screen made of cloud mother (mica), the long river gradually sinks as morning stars sink too. Chang'e must regret stealing the elixir of immortality, her heart filled with sorrow every night under the blue sea and clear sky."
"Li Shangyin" Rong Jing raised an eyebrow.
"Li Shangyin, whose courtesy name is Yishan, also known as Yu Xi Shi (Jade Creek Scholar) or Fan Nan Sheng. He was a poet of the late Tang Dynasty." Yun Qianyu briefly introduced him.
Rong Jing nodded and did not ask any further questions.
Yun Qianyu spoke slowly, "Legend has it that long ago, Houyi met Chang'e under a moon-camphor tree while hunting in the mountains. They used the moon-camphor tree as their witness to become husband and wife. During Emperor Yao’s era, ten suns appeared in the sky, burning down crops and killing plants. The people were starving. Meanwhile, fierce beasts such as Yuyu (a mythological creature), Zaozhi (another mythical beast), Jiyin (yet another mythical beast), Fengou (a giant bird), Xixi (a giant boar), and Xiusha (a giant snake) began to terrorize the people. Emperor Yao ordered Houyi to kill Yuyu on Chuohua Plain, destroy Jiyin over Fang River, defeat Fengou at Qingzhou Lake, shoot down ten suns, slay Yuyu, chop up Xiusha in Dongting Lake, and capture Xixi in Sanglin Forest. The people rejoiced and crowned Yao as the emperor. Later, Houyi received an elixir of immortality from Queen Mother of the West and entrusted it to Chang'e for safekeeping. Fengmeng heard about this and attempted to steal the elixir; failing that, he threatened to harm Chang'e. In a moment of desperation, Chang'e swallowed the elixir and flew up to the moon. Unable to bear being away from Houyi, she stayed in the Moon Palace where her loneliness was unbearable. To alleviate the boredom, she urged Wu Gang to cut down trees and asked Jade Rabbit to grind herbs for an elixir that could bring them back together on Earth soon. Upon hearing about Chang'e’s departure, Houyi grieved deeply. The Queen Mother of the West was touched by their sincere love and allowed Chang'e to return to Earth once a month under the full moon at the foot of the Moon-camphor tree."
"Isn't it said that Chang'e regrets stealing the elixir" Rong Jing asked in confusion.
"That's one version. There’s another, which says she secretly ate it rather than Fengmeng stealing it!" Yun Qianyu smiled and explained: "I prefer the first version. How could a deeply loving couple let one person take the elixir of immortality alone"
Rong Jing nodded and pulled Yun Qianyu closer, saying, "You're right. I believe in that too."
Yun Qianyu turned around to look at Rong Jing's jade-like face under moonlight and said earnestly, "Rong Jing, let’s talk."
"About what" Rong Jing looked down into Yun Qianyu's eyes.
"Seeing you fall before me today, I thought that no one is as important to me as you. You have taken root and sprouted in my heart. No one else could make my heart ache so intensely at that moment. So, if you do not like me being close with Ye Qingran, Rong Feng, Leng Shaozhuo, and others, I will try to..." Yun Qianmo pursed her lips as though she had put a lot of thought into what she was about to say.
Rong Jing reached out his hand to cover Yun Qianmo’s mouth and stopped the words that were about to come out of her mouth.
Yun Qianmo raised her eyes to look at him.
Rong Jing let go of his hand, saying softly, "Qianmo, we don’t need to change for each other. We also don’t have to sacrifice ourselves to please the other party and force ourselves to adapt to them. You are you, and if I were to change myself just for you, then that person wouldn’t be Yun Qianmo anymore. On the contrary, if I changed myself because of you, then I would no longer be Rong Jing."
Yun Qianmo blinked her eyes.
Rong Jing gently stroked her long black hair and continued saying, "Isn’t it fine for us to just stay the way we are What’s bad about that When we fight, argue, and bicker with each other, our hearts become even closer, closer still. Eventually, one day will come when neither of us has to force the other to find a compromise. You see, is it not true today that I love you more than ever before, and vice versa for me So if we just stay this way in the future, what’s wrong with that It’s much more interesting than those so-called respectful but dull husband-and-wife relationships."
Yun Qianmo frowned, pursed her lips, and said rather fearfully, "But you can’t scare me like this again. My heart can’t take it."
Rong Jing chuckled softly and replied, "I promise that I won’t do such things to you anymore."
"Alright then!" Yun Qianmo nodded as though she was having a hard time making up her mind, but the corners of her lips curled into a smile. She said in a low voice, "But I think there’s nothing wrong with this way either! As you said, if I change myself for your sake, that person won’t be me anymore. And if you change yourself for my sake, then you wouldn’t be you anymore. The reason why we love each other is not because of the full list of each other’s strengths but also includes our weaknesses. It’s about accepting the entire you and me in all aspects. Without one strength or weakness, it won’t be complete."
"Mm-hmm!" Rong Jing nodded with a smile.
"But what happened today at Cang Ting is my fault. I shouldn’t have been so careless," Yun Qianmo apologized in a low voice.
"If you already know that it’s your mistake, then just correct yourself from now on!" Rong Jing entangled one strand of Yun Qianmo’s black hair with his fingers and said in a slightly serious tone, "What I’m angry about is not because I was jealous but because of your complete lack of vigilance. Being restrained by others right under your own roof. Yun Qianmo, when did you become so foolish"
"He’s just too much like you!" Yun Qianmo said in a depressed tone, "That means that I miss you too much! Seeing someone who resembles your demeanor and grace made me feel affectionate towards him as well. Who knew he wasn’t actually a harmless little rabbit but rather a wolf in disguise"
Rong Jing sighed, saying, "My influence turns out to be so great My blessings can even benefit people unrelated to us"
"Yeah, your influence is huge, especially on me," Yun Qianmo nodded.
Suddenly Rong Jing laughed and said, "Did you learn a lesson this time Have you become more mindful of things now You should know that even if someone resembles me, they are not me. They could turn into a sharp sword at any moment to stab a hole in your body. Would I be willing to let myself get stabbed"
Yun Qianmo shook her head and sighed. She reached out and hugged Rong Jing, nuzzling his chest with her forehead as she said, "Rong Jing, you’re so great!"
"Go to sleep now! I have to leave early tomorrow," Rong Jing patted Yun Qianmo’s head gently and smiled.
Yun Qianmo was taken aback. She lifted her head up and glared at Rong Jing, "You’re leaving Are you going back to the capital or are you headed for He Gu County"
"Yes! Since there’s still no end in sight for the flood situation, I have no choice but to leave," Rong Jing explained. "To be able to come back and spend the Mid-Autumn Festival with you is already an extremely luxurious thing. How could I stay longer in the capital"
"But your body needs rest!" Yun Qianmo frowned.
"I can still take care of myself even if I’m not in the capital," Rong Jing said.
"No way! I won’t allow you to leave! You can’t risk your life for that old emperor’s江山天下!" Yun Qianmo shook her head firmly and said, "Moreover, didn’t you encounter assassins when you returned to the capital You sustained serious injuries without proper treatment. Furthermore, you fought with Cang Ting after that. How many lives do you have to squander like this Besides, Ye Tianyi has also come back. It’s not just you alone in the capital.
"The seventh prince will definitely leave the capital tomorrow as well!" Rong Jing glanced at the residence in the west courtyard and said.
Yun Qianyue also looked towards the west courtyard, which was brightly lit tonight. She recalled Cang Ting saying that he would become a member of the seventh prince's staff and therefore would live in his mansion from now on. She shook her head. "He manages his own realm. For whom have you been working yourself to exhaustion If something happened to you, no one else but me would care, right I said no means no; let the old emperor send someone else to manage the flood crisis instead. Anyway, the situation has already stabilized and only follow-up matters remain. Is there no one else in charge of this in the capital"
"That's different!" Rong Jing shook his head. "My body isn't that weak yet. We can't give up halfway through when doing something, right If it were you, wouldn’t you finish what you started and do it well After all that effort, are you willing to let someone else take the credit for your work Besides, although this is the emperor’s territory, ordinary people have no say in these matters."
Yun Qianyue pursed her lips and muttered, "So you definitely have to leave"
"Yes!" Rong Jing nodded.
"I'll go with you!" Yun Qianyue felt extremely reluctant to let him go.
"The aunts in the palace need your care. Now that Madam Qin of the Chancellor’s residence has lost her child, the Second Prince will definitely not let it rest here. Even if he doesn’t like Madam Qin, the child is his and he was denied any chance to contest with the seventh prince by the emperor. Would you think he would be satisfied Therefore, this capital may soon fall into turmoil. There will be an unstable period ahead. You have to stay behind to protect the aunts." Rong Jing lowered his head to kiss Yun Qianyue's face gently and said, "Be good now. This time I’ll leave the capital for twenty days at most or half a month at least."
"Alright!" Yun Qianyue helplessly agreed.
Rong Jing stood up and pulled Yun Qianyue back to their room; Yun Qianyue followed him gloomily.
The curtains in the room were drawn, but they couldn't block out the moonlight. Rong Jing and Yun Qianyue lay side by side in bed. Yun Qianyue didn’t want to sleep so she kept her eyes open, staring at Rong Jing for a long time before he sighed helplessly and pressed her head down onto his chest, saying, "Be good now, go to sleep."
"They say longing is bitter; I didn't understand it until now. Now I’m just like an unhappy lady in the閨chamber," Yun Qianyue muttered.
Rong Jing smiled lightly and patted her body saying, "It's said that yearning is bitter, but who knows about the sweetness hidden within this bitterness Knowing you are waiting for me here, I’ll come back as soon as possible!"
"Mm-hmm," Yun Qianyue hummed softly and closed her eyes.
Rong Jing tilted his head to look at her; the person in his arms had lost weight again these days and was becoming more delicate. But in such short times, some things seemed to have grown much larger, he could even feel the elasticity of her chest now, which made him start feeling aroused involuntarily. He couldn’t resist kissing her hair and sighed softly after a moment, "Originally I wanted us to make love tonight; who knew that... looks like we'll have to wait again."
Yun Qianyue naturally didn't fall asleep immediately. On hearing this, she blushed instantly, feeling hot all over but dared not move an inch, overwhelmed with regret for his surprise plan which had turned into a scare. If he had told her earlier, how would she have any time left to worry about Cang Ting She would’ve rushed out of the city to welcome him long ago and wouldn’t be in such a sorry state.
She didn’t know how much time passed before she finally fell asleep due to exhaustion.
When Yun Qianyue woke up again, it was already late morning. Before opening her eyes, she reached out immediately for the person beside her and felt the coldness of the bedding; she instantly woke up with a start and sat upright; Rong Jing’s figure was indeed not there anymore. She swept through the room quickly, then called out to the outside, "Ling Lian, Yi Xue!"
"Miss!" Hearing her voice, Ling Lian and Yi Xue hurriedly pushed open the door and ran in.
“Where’s Rong Jing” Yun Qianyue asked anxiously.
"Miss, Prince Si left at dawn! He instructed us not to wake you up because he said that you slept too late last night," Ling Lian immediately explained.
Yun Qianyue tapped the bed twice with her hand and muttered gloomily, “How could I have been so sound asleep that I didn’t even know about his departure”
"Prince Si put soothing incense in the censer inside the room to help you sleep more deeply," Yi Xue explained.
Yun Qianyue looked at the table and indeed saw smoke still rising from the censer. It was truly calming incense, with a strong scent. The dosage seemed large; she rubbed her forehead and said, "This person... he’s clearly not wanting me to see him off. What's wrong with me seeing him off"
Ling Lian and Ye Xue exchanged a glance but remained silent. They thought that their young miss would be so reluctant to part with Prince Shi Jing that he might not leave even after it gets dark.
"Forget it, the person is already gone! He probably has arrived in Qu City by now," Yun Qianyue put down her hand and lazily lay back on her bed, waving her hands at them. "Since this is how things are, I will have a little nap before heading out. You two can go now."
The two of them replied and left.
Yun Qianyue had woken up so late that she was no longer sleepy. However, since the bedcurtains still held the scent of Rong Jing, she didn't want to leave just yet. She lay on her bed, hugging a blanket as she stared at the ceiling and started counting numbers from one to a thousand before starting again in reverse.
The room door was pushed open from outside, and Rong Feng entered slowly. Seeing the person lying stiffly on the bed without any reaction, he smiled and asked, "Moonie, what are you doing"
"Counting numbers!" Yun Qianyue replied with just two words.
Rong Feng saw that Yun Qianyue was still lying down and not getting up. A hint of understanding flashed in his eyes. He smiled and said in a warm tone, "Originally, I wanted to request the Emperor to let me take Prince Shi Jing's place to leave the capital, but Prince Shi Jing said it wouldn't be appropriate. It would be a waste if I were to hand over my authority after just barely entering the War Department. Furthermore, even though I currently have freedom in the War Department, I am still under the Emperor’s control secretly. Besides that, all the eighteen eastern prefectures hold Prince Shi Jing as divine, so me going there wouldn't serve any purpose either. If I cannot solve the flood problem, it would likely be counterproductive. Others are not worth mentioning, too. Since the court is currently in chaos and divided into different factions with their own interests, if Prince Shi Jing were to give up halfway through, all his previous efforts would have been wasted."
"Mm-hmm!" Yun Qianyue nodded. She naturally understood these matters.
Night Tianyi and Rong Jing left the capital together to deal with the flood. How could he fall short of Night Tianyi The Western eighteen prefectures were now under Night Tianyi's control, and Night Tianyi also had the Northern Frontier. If Rong Feng took advantage of this chance to use his own men to win over the Eastern eighteen prefectures, then the entire Sky Saint Capital would be entirely within his grasp. This was not good for both Rong Jing and her. Back when it was raining heavily and the floods were severe, in terms of prestige and authority in the court, besides Rong Jing, only Night Tianyi could handle this situation. Night Qingran controlled the capital's military affairs, while Night Tianqin and Night Tianyu were not up to much use for flood control. There would definitely be no effect if someone other than them attempted it. The old emperor couldn't joke around with his kingdom; hence he had been forced to employ Rong Jing. This was a burden but also a piece of "fatty meat." How could Rong Jing resist swallowing this As for giving up halfway through, that wouldn't be right! Therefore, returning back was the correct decision! He needed to consider the bigger picture.
"It's good that you understand!" Rong Feng smiled and sat at the table. "I just returned from the palace; today during court, Second Prince requested an imperial order for his marriage with Miss Qin of Chancellor’s Mansion to take place as planned."
"The old emperor agreed" Yun Qianyue arched her eyebrows.
"Yes, he did. Not only that, but the Emperor said in order to add to their joy, let's also arrange the wedding for Princess Qi and Prince Yun Li at the same time! It would also help alleviate his bad luck of losing a grandchild. Two happy events within half a month; the Ministry of Rites has already started preparations!" Rong Feng reported.
"He truly knows how to put on a show. Indeed, it's the heart of an emperor," Yun Qianyue snorted coldly. "What about Chancellor Qin’s stance"
"Chancellor Qin" Rong Feng thought for a moment and said with a smile, "Kneeling down in thanks to our Emperor’s grace! Grateful beyond measure!"
"Truly an outstanding Chancellor Qin," Yun Qianyue sneered coldly.
"Chancellor Qin of two dynasties is not someone without ability." Rong Feng poured a cup of tea and sipped it. "Today there was another matter; the Emperor inquired about the marriage arrangements for Little Prince Cong of King Xiaoqin’s Household."
"Oh" Yun Qianyue raised her eyebrows. "How is that going"
"The emperor intends to marry Lady Zhao Kehan, the legitimate daughter of the War Department's Deputy Minister, to Young Prince Cong," Rong Feng opened his mouth slowly. "King Xiaoqin said that Miss Zhao is very good; however, regarding Shao Zhuo’s personality, the Emperor also knows it's not too good. He would be happy about this matter, but still needs to consider whether War Department Deputy Minister would be willing to marry off their daughter into King Xiaoqin’s Household and also ask Young Prince Cong for his opinion."
Yun Qianyue seemed thoughtful, "He's passing the buck onto War Department Deputy Minister. What happened next"
"The War Department Deputy Minister said that it is reported that Young Prince Cong has reformed and turned over a new leaf; he naturally congratulates King Xiaoqin and also rejoices for the emperor’s sake," Rong Feng chuckled, "and of course, in his heart, he agrees to it. However, his daughter has a stubborn temper and was spoiled by him. Besides that, Young Prince Cong's reputation before was too poor; he doesn't know if she can accept this situation. So he needs to return home for further inquiries and then report back to the emperor and King Xiaoqin."
"The old emperor Since ancient times, it is said 'marriage by parents' order.' It seems like that saying should be abolished!" Yun Qianyue asked with a smile.
"Of course, the Emperor accepted it! This means he’s moving past this matter. However, after court, he summoned Fourth Prince to the Imperial Study," Rong Feng said.
"Night Tianyu" Yun Qianyue arched her eyebrows in puzzlement.
Yun Feng solved the puzzle with a faint smile, "Zhao Kehan from the Ministry of War's Vice Minister residence likes Fourth Prince Ye Tianyu!"
Cloud Qianyue was enlightened, "No wonder the old emperor made such arrangements! After giving Night Tianqing a heavy blow, he now targets Night Tianyu. The Ministry of War is an important position in court. For many years, the Vice Minister has been one of His Majesty’s trusted ministers. However, matters concerning children might affect the Vice Minister. The old emperor fears that the Vice Minister will get involved in Night Tianyu's affairs; it seems like he’s trying to pull someone out!"
"Rather than pulling someone out, it might be said that the Emperor is preparing to clean up the court!" Yun Feng stated.
Cloud Qianyue gave a cold laugh, "He has been cleaning up the court for many years with little action; now he's truly starting to cut! But when cutting, whether he’s cutting off loyalty or treachery aside, it remains uncertain if he can keep an intact kingdom."
"Indeed difficult to say!" Yun Feng nodded with a smile and suddenly added, "Moreover, after morning court today, Eunuch Wen was sent by the Emperor to Prince Seven's residence to inquire about the illness of the young master of the Cang family who fell ill upon arriving in the capital. He’s currently in the western courtyard!"
Cloud Qianyue's thoughts turned, her eyes narrowing.
"The Young Master Cang is merely a beginning! The Ten Great Clans will eventually intervene in court affairs." Yun Feng sighed, "On the day Emperor Tiansheng founded his dynasty, the Ten Great Clans united and retired together. Now that they have reemerged, how long can this century of prosperity last Moonie, you're right; this world will change no matter what a few people say or do to prevent it. There are many hands pushing from behind the scenes. I hope there's less impact on the common folk!"
Cloud Qianyue nodded. It started with the Lan family and now the Cang family; which family will be next The more lively Tiancheng City becomes, the better.
"Miss Yun Shallow Moon! Your two maidservants have come to discuss the marriage of Young Lord and Princess Seven." Jade Bracelet's voice sounded from outside.
Cloud Qianyue looked toward the door, sitting up with her lying body. "Come in!"
Jade Bracelet and Green Twig entered one after another, bowing to Cloud Qianyue and hurriedly doing the same when they saw Yun Feng present. Yun Feng nodded at them and left. The two placed their account books on the table and stood respectfully awaiting for Cloud Qianyue to get out of bed.
Cloud Qianyue got off her bed, sitting in front of the desk where she began discussing with them. After Yun Muhan and Ye Qian were wed by imperial decree, Ye Qian had said that she was a South Border princess and would take on a husband according to customs; therefore, their wedding was held in the South Border as per tradition. The old emperor agreed, so they quickly returned there after receiving the imperial decree. So, it wasn’t exactly a joyous occasion. Now, Yun Li's marriage is the first joyful event for the Cloud王府 in twenty years, and since he’s marrying a princess, naturally it needs to be treated seriously.
With the recent heavy rain causing disasters across Tiansheng territory, large-scale wedding arrangements are not appropriate; however, they can’t be too simple either.
Since Princess Seven's marriage decree was issued several days ago, Cloud王府 has been secretly preparing. But given the complexity of ancient weddings and the need to follow both imperial and mansion customs, a lot needs to be prepared. Cloud Qianyue spent an entire morning with Jade Bracelet and Green Twig discussing the details and left remaining specifics for them to consult Yun Li's preferences as he is the main character.
After they left, she stretched lazily, thinking that things would likely get busy from now on. Busy was better though; it gave her less time to think about people. She put one of Rong Jing's cut osmanthus branches into a vase and thought that with some care, the flowers could last ten days or so; by then, Rong Jing should be back. It would help ease her longing.
In the afternoon, preparations for the Young Lord’s wedding were in full swing at Cloud王府's front yard.
With nothing to do in Yun Shallow Moon Hall and not wanting to just sit around, she brought Ling Lian and Yi Xue to the front yard. From the groom's attire to the ceremonial headdress, flower plumes, and hall decoration, she personally inspected everything, pointing out any unsatisfactory elements for revision or redoing. The servants of Cloud王府 worked diligently upon seeing her overseeing everything.
When Yun Li and Prince Cloud returned from court, they saw Cloud Qianyue busy with the preparations in the front yard.
"Sister, your body needs recuperation; just give instructions to others! Why come out yourself Go back and rest!" Yun Li hurried over to her side with a frown.
"I’m fine. I'm not that weak! Ten days of recuperation is enough; too much might make me sick." Cloud Qianyue waved dismissively.
"Then you don’t have to take charge yourself either. Princess Seven and I do not mind such matters, so we should keep things simple." Yun Li looked at the list on the desk which included only the best materials for everything needed. He frowned as he said, "The people are suffering; if we can save some expenses, let’s do it."
"Haha, Brother really knows how to manage his household! No need to economize. We’ve privately donated a lot of money to help the common folk during this flood disaster. Although you and Princess Seven think simplicity is better, she is still an imperial princess and you are the Young Lord of Cloud王府; some appearances must be maintained or people might think our Cloud王府 is too stingy." Cloud Qianyue said with a smile.
"But these expenses will certainly be high. I heard from Father that Cloud王府 has been operating at a loss for many years…" Yun Li glanced at Prince Cloud who was looking through the accounts, whispering.
Yun Qianyue also glanced at Yun王爺, smiling and shaking her head. "Ever since I took over the Yun王府, Jade Bracelet and Green Twig have managed everything perfectly, earning a fortune daily. How could my brother's wedding gift be anything less You don't need to worry about it! Just tell me if you're not satisfied with anything!"
Yun Li hurriedly shook his head, "How could there be anything I'm unsatisfied with Everything looks perfect. I never thought...
Yun Qianyue smiled and hugged Yun Li's arm in a lazy, childish manner. "Brother is the crown prince of the Yun王府; after Father retreats, you'll become the new王爺and be the master of the entire王府in the future. A mere wedding isn't worth mentioning. Naturally, I want to give you the best. Although we can't make too big a show, it shouldn't be small either! Otherwise, wouldn't it all have been for nothing, bearing the name of the Rong王府's hundred years of glory"
Yun Li looked at Yun Qianyue fondly, nodding with a smile like an elder brother. "Alright then, I'll leave everything to you!"
"Mm-hmm." Yun Qianyue released his arm.
"Qianyue, isn't this too extravagant Although Lier is marrying the Seventh Princess, the Second Prince is also getting married on that day. Since the Second Prince's王府has been in decline since its confiscation, wouldn't it overshadow the prince's wedding" Yun王爺asked worriedly after looking at the bills for a moment.
"Father, do you think Ning Tianqiong is really a soft touch The saying goes that even rabbits have three burrows; how could he only have one prince's residence all these years as the Crown Prince You're underestimating him!" Yun Qianyue shrugged it off.
Yun王爺realized with a nod, "Father was mistaken."
Yun Qianyue wanted to say when had he ever been smart but remembered that this man was his uncle and had supported the Yun王府for so many years in place of her father. She kept quiet instead and softened her tone, "Father, don't worry! You'll be waiting for your daughter-in-law to offer tea; you needn't worry about anything else! I'm here."
"Alright then! With you around, Father is at ease! Your... brother has great fortune with you preparing this wedding for him." Yun王爺nodded and thought of Yun Muhuan, sighing as he patted Yun Li on the shoulder before heading to his study.
Yun Li looked at Yun Qianyue, "Father is right; I'm indeed quite fortunate."
Yun Qianyue smiled and asked, "Is Brother tired If not, why don't you join me in working on the wedding preparations It's very interesting."
"I'm not tired! Let's do it together!" Yun Li nodded with a smile.
Over the next few days, Yun Qianyue was busy preparing for Yun Li’s wedding. The Yun王府was bustling as everything related to happiness and celebration came in and out. Meanwhile, the Second Prince's residence, Chancellor's府, and the imperial palace were also busy with these two joyful events. For a while, it seemed to alleviate the grief of the loss of the Chancellor's daughter on Mid-Autumn Festival day.
Rong Jing arrived at River Valley County three days later. His letter reported all was well, and Yun Qianyue felt reassured but still couldn't help sending him a message not to stay up late or get up early, warning him to do his best within limits and that she would check on his health when he returned; otherwise, she'd ignore him.
Rong Jing quickly replied, assuring her he would follow the "Lady"’s advice.
Seeing those two words in the letter, Yun Qianyue felt a sweet sorrow. When could she truly become his wife She was preparing someone else's wedding while not yet planning her own. Thinking this, she felt heavy-hearted, even feeling that the extremely light letter couldn’t bear its weight.
A few days passed in busy preparations and finally arrived the day of Yun Li’s marriage to the Seventh Princess and Ning Tianqiong’s marriage to Chancellor's府Miss Qin Yuning.
